Well...theft, no matter what it is or who's involved is never a good thing. And all any one of us can do is lock down our items and keep our insurance premiums paid up to date. After that, it's just a matter if how deep one sleeps! Sad this should ever happen.
I've never been to Quartzite so when I saw the photo above I thought ... OMG! I'd never want to do camping like that. But curiosity got me and I did a quick Google search on Quartzite camping and actually found this a pretty interesting place. I can see why there might be an attraction. Looks like there is quite a lot of things one could do while there.
I think those of us East of the Mississippi are so accustom to trees and forests, that's what we are comfortable with. And you all know we humans are creatures of comfort. Move out of our comfort zone and we start feeling paranoid. The older we get, (mostly) the less change we want in our lives. We want familiarity and tranquility .... (whatever that means to each of us).
So an area line Quartzite is quite an eye-popper for those of us who have never been there! It sounds like an interesting place, and evidently it must be because the photos show it is crowded, literally bumper-to-bumper. I don't think I could enjoy camping like that.
My wife and I have stayed at the county fairgrounds in Elkhart, Indiana a few times now. When various rallies are going on, the campers are crammed in pretty tight. I feel uncomfortable because its really not my favorite way to camp. But, we have to remind ourselves we are there for a different reason, and simply using the camper for a place to sleep, rest, and get food, and then it's off to the activities again.
I imagine Quartzite is the same.
I still prefer mountains with trees, campgrounds with lakes, and full hook-ups! I've been to the Florida, Virginia, Main, and Massachusetts beaches and, although I enjoy sand between my toes, I don't enjoy sand in the truck or camper! I suppose that's OK too, because quite obvious someone else really doesn't mind that sand.
What I'm sayin' is, each of us has a comfort level of where we like to camp. I think that's perfectly OK. If I had an opportunity to visit Quartzite, I probably would. But with so many, so tightly squeezed it, I'd also be paranoid as a the chocolate M&M guy walking into the party without his shell! For me, it would be a bitter-sweet adventure.
Still too bad, we can't have trust in our fellow mankind to be honest, truthful, and respect other's property. All to sad we live in such a screwed up society!
