That picture is funny. It's taken of beautiful downtown Quartzsite. It's not of the surrounding desert areas where folks boondock.
As far as thief...it's no worse than in your hometown. This isn't something that happens on a continuous basis day after day. We have stayed in the Scadden area many times and love it. It is perfectly safe. Just use common sense when you keep things outside and in plain view.
