Things to see in Idaho

Can anyone tell me what happened to the Beyond Hope Campground, across the Lake Pend Oreille from Sandpoint. Stayed there a few years ago but can't find it on the map now.

I recommend including Sandpoint, ID on your itinerary. See this video for an indication of what the area has to offer.

Idaho Falls is kind of a neat place too.

You've got to take in the Emerald Creek Garnet area south of Coeur D Alene in Clarkia, Id. You can pan for star garnet there, which is the only place in the world other than India that you can find the star Garnet. I know, I worked there for three years. It's Forest Service so there won't be any hookups. And there is a campground near, but the 7 miles of gravel road can get pretty dusty in late summer. Great fun and you can get muddy doing it and walk away with some pretty valuable precious gems.

I prefer north Idaho also, and the Lochsa, Selway, and Clearwater River areas are my favorites. Most of the CG's are USFS and don't have hookups, but they are just fine unless you have a large Class A or 5er.

If you get to Caldwell, the nephew of the founder of the Wolf Lodge Inn trained under his uncle and opened a steak house in Caldwell that will rival his uncles.......Best Rib Eye in south western Idaho.

The RV Park itself is nice, as is the town of Coeur D'Alene, which is quite picturesque, on a beautiful lake surrounded by mountains. The shopping and eating in town is great, and the folks who run Blackwell Island are friendly and helpful. They guided us to a nearby mine tour, nice Italian restaurant on the lake, and Costco.

Priest Lake is prettier, more remote, and more useful (beaches, etc) but Pend Oreille is much bigger and some fantastic scenery. Farragut State park has a lot of interesting history too, being a huge training camp and hospital for the Navy in WW II.

Not to mention that it was the ONLY inland, land locked lake, that was a USN sub training facility with submarines.
