Things to see in Idaho

Hi there everyone,

The DW and I are planning our vacation for next year. We plan to go through Yellowstone and then up to Glacier. We're also wondering if there is anything you would recommend taking time to see in Idaho?

We welcome all suggestions. We are traveling from the Sacramento California area.

Happy camping!

  • I see on your profile that you have 3 dogs. I'm sure they would like Blackwell Island RV Park as much as my dogs did, as it has a section of the private beach set apart for use for dogs. The RV Park itself is nice, as is the town of Coeur D'Alene, which is quite picturesque, on a beautiful lake surrounded by mountains. The shopping and eating in town is great, and the folks who run Blackwell Island are friendly and helpful. They guided us to a nearby mine tour, nice Italian restaurant on the lake, and Costco.
  • I prefer North Idaho. We just got back from a week at Priest Lake (Priest Lake state park) and Pend Oreille Lake (Farragut State Park). Priest Lake is prettier, more remote, and more useful (beaches, etc) but Pend Oreille is much bigger and some fantastic scenery. Farragut State park has a lot of interesting history too, being a huge training camp and hospital for the Navy in WW II.
  • Definitely, Sawtooth Nat'l Rec Area at Stanley and the drive from there over to Salmon, ID. The Bosie area is a great city to explore but can get very hot in summer so spring/fall is best. The area around McCall is very pretty. Actually, the whole state offers something for everybody! Have fun planning.
  • They (Idaho state) has a really neat book they send out (atleast couple of years ago) that has all there neat stuff. And see http://www.visitidaho.org/
This last trip over there (family business) found a neat RV park in back of Costco in Clarkston WA (about 5 blocks from Idaho) with all the store to re-supply and right along river. Perfect for Lewiston/ Clarkston to get caught up on wash, mail etc before hitting boonies. Google maps has name as Premier RV resort at L&L of 46.424088,-117.044224. http://www.premierrvresorts.com/PRVR/(S(etsqte55o4hqa120cwzfgl45))/Pages/p0130LocationDetails.aspx
Not cheap but everything is maybe a 5 min walk right on river. Did stay just noticed when taking Mom in law shopping at Costco.
