#1 is to go LED. The biggest bang for the lowest buck. If you don't do anything else this will really give you a much bigger supply of electricity.
#2 is Solar. If you have good batteries keep them and go to an expandable solar system. The cost has really come down and this is the best option for electrical power. For those in the NW get portable panels. If your batteries are shot and your budget does not allow the purchase of both expensive batteries and a solar system, buy cheaper batteries and still go solar maybe fewer panels. The solar panel(s) and a decent controller can make the cheaper batteries hold more energy because when the sun is out the solar panel is working to charge them if necessary.
