#3 Solar -- doesn't do any good without the batteries. I think it's easy to go overboard on the solar, but the batteries are much more important to us. Using the generator for an hour a day to charge the batteries is a viable alternative to solar if you don't want to spend the money. In my opinion the only thing I gained with solar was avoiding the noise of running the generator. Seems like most people have solar now since I rarely hear people running generators anymore.
