Transfer of Federal Lands to the States

I can certainly understand how this is a problem. The rafters have destroyed our beaches along the wild rivers using them as bathrooms literally 100's of times a weekend. Now they're required to put it in a bag and pack it out.



Having rated the Idaho rivers, specifically the Middle Fork Salmon and the Main Salmon, many times over the last 15 years I have to take exception with your statement. As rafters we are required to practice Leave No Trace camping. I have never experienced what you have described. I believe your issue is with the day runners around the urban areas. I also believe you have given great support for keeping the Feds in charge of the public lands. Most, if not all, of the day trip companies are licensed and managed by State authorities. It is incumbent that those authorities enforce the rules and that apparently is not happening. On all of the Federally permitted rivers those requirements are strictly enforced. Most of the States clamoring for control of Federal land can't even take care of what they have now. They would never be able to manage vast tracts of land in a responsible manner that would still allow access to all citizens.
