Federal & State campgrounds: Max rig size?

Hey Everyone,

I started looking around at another rig. My 5'er that has been my mainstay does not fit my newer truck and it has been sitting for well over a year without any use. Soo.... I started looking at class A, class C and bus conversions.

I figured that for max flexibility I should stick around 30' in a class A type of rig.

I started shopping and wound up with a 40' "faux" Wanderlodge.

Now for the question: What is this going to do to my location options for camping?

I have run 6+ years full time in a 40' rig in the past without issue but I had never stayed in "public" campgrounds.

Now that I am looking at the various public campgrounds as places to spend time later this year I am finding the majority of the rustic camping area's that we are looking at indicate a max rig length of 30' or less. Are these hard rules or just guidelines?

I can KOA all day in a 40' rig but what kind of reality am I going to face when I get on the road with a frugal budget and want to stay at cheap campgrounds as much as I can.

Can you all recommend your favorites that will accommodate this rig in: Central/Southern CA, AZ and NM?

Thank you.
S.
