Be careful about worshiping state sovereignty with too much voracity. If we all bowed blindly to the alter of state sovereignty, we might still have slavery in the south.
My wife and I have both worked for Wyoming state government for many years (her 25, me 30...both now retired). We are well aware what would happen to federal land if it were turned over to the State of Wyoming. We have seen the profit motive dominate local decision making time and time again.
If we want our public lands to remain public, our best bet by far is to go with federal management. Federal management is not perfect, and we can all find examples to point that out. But federal restrictions are nothing compared to what we would see under state or private management. That is abundantly clear to me.
