If anyone wants to get the best sense of Theodore Roosevelt, his ideas, what molded them, and how he implemented them, there is no better book than the one by Douglas Brinkley. It is called Wilderness Warrior, but it uses the term "Wilderness" not in the sense of Congressionally designated Wilderness, but in terms of the wild lands that were quickly being settled as Roosevelt was travelling west trying to find them.
