- AlmotExplorer IIIMoisheh has a profound negative experience with Manulife which should not be ignored. Though I would be leery of any questionnaires, it's better not to have to fill it.
Here is - one of many - review of insurance plans and providers: Review of Travel Insurance for Seniors in Canada
They don't dwell on the company reputation and history of non-payments, any insurer would have such a history. They just compared quotes for a senior couple, 2 weeks trip in the US. Banks did not come on top in terms of cost, and neither did Manulife. - moishehExplorerHaving your Dr. help with the questionnaire is of no help. Insurance companies often have their own interpretation of the questions. Even a lawyer cannot help! Companies like Manulife ask trick questions. They can interpret your having a stress test as a diagnostic procedure. Co-operators and RBC are 2 of the best insurers. I have used both.
- D_E_JohnsonExplorerour policy with Securiglobe is underwritten by Co-operators..!
- naysmitjExplorerMake an appointment with your doctor and take the questionaire with you.
- moishehExplorerBeware of Medipac. That policy is underwritten by Manulife. A company with a horrible reputation.
Moisheh - D_E_JohnsonExplorerlast 2 years we have bought from Securiglobe. Remember, the older you get, the more expensive it can become.(unfortunately)
- ed-myrnaExplorerThank You to you all. I'll take you advice.
- deewhite0612ExplorerWe use Medipac through Canadian Snowbirds Association. The more often you buy from them the bigger the discount you get.
- Jack_Diane_FreeExplorerWe have always purchased our travel insurance through our RBC account/web site. It is as competitive as any.
- AlmotExplorer IIIed-myrna, there are dozens of sources, direct from insurer or through broker (some insurers sell through brokers only). Ratings of insurer are often useless as most people who rated, never had to file a claim - this is how insurance business work, many buy but few have to file a claim. It doesn't matter what the broker says on the phone or writes on the website. It's your responsibility to make sure that you are eligible for a particular plan, and fill the questionnaire correctly if there is a questionnaire. Most plans will have a questionnaire.
Get few quotes to compare, paying attention to the amount of coverage.
Here is one broker: kanetix.ca
And another one (popular in the US and Europe but not known well in Canada): squaremouth.com
