Linda,
First, welcome to the forum.
Second, cudos to 2gypsies for actually answering your question. Doing a search can be a good tool, but not if you don't know what to search for. Everyone on this forum was new to this lifestyle at first, but sometimes they forget.
Third, I found that most states would really like you to visit (and spend a little money) so they all have a tourism site on the internet. If you search for "(State Name) Tourism", you'll find places that you didn't even know existed. I supplement the info by stopping at the first state rest area as I enter a new state. Nice for a potty break and a chance to stretch your legs. Most have a wall of flyers for things to see in their state and the folks behind the counter can usually give you up to date info on any road construction. BTW, every rest area has pamphlets for "Ripley's Believe it or not". Save your money.
Fourth, if you travel with a pet, consider their comfort while you're not in the RV. It can go from uncomfortably cold to hot and back to cold in the same day, so consider a CG with at least electric hookups if you'll be away touring the area for a long day.
Finally, You're retired. There's no hurry. Arrange for a friend to check on your home, have the Post Office hold your mail and ask a friend or relative to pick it up once a month or the PO will toss it.
Now, get moving!
On the mail thing. We always have our mail forwarded to a "temp" address, which is my SIL she will then bundle it up once a month (or if need be forward an important one) and send it to a current location in a "if it fits it ships" box gets to us in 2 days.
