That 198 is shorter but the switchbacks are a killer, literally. I believe the limit is 22 feet and our old Winnebago was 22 feet. Terrible when oncoming traffic is hugging the line. We met a 5er coming down, way too long to be on the road. Saw him swinging way out at a curve about 100 feet ahead. Lucky for us! Now with our longer MH, it's the route thru Fresno.
Dan, do know about the BLM camping on the side of the road past the Grant Grove and the store. It's National Forest. A Ranger told us about that. Maybe you can check and see if you can take one of the side roads and find a secluded spot.
