I used Windows Movie Maker (free). Self taught by watching tutorials on youtube. The editing was a lot of fun, it was the software and hardware issues that got frustrating. This video came from 32gb of raw footage, and my computer hated it. I had the editing done in about 4-5 hours. Publishing it to a movie took another 4 days. It didn't work until I broke it into 10 minute segments and on my third computer. By the time I got it done, some of the careful polishing from the first edit had been lost, and I was too worn to go to that level again.
The video was shot with a Sony Action Cam. It seemed a little more of a value than GoPro to me. From this YouTube link, you really can't tell how sweet the 1080p original looks on our TV. It is just as clean and crisp as bluray. We're very pleased.
