I guess if there were kidnappings, murders, or robberies against visitors to Big Bend, it would make the news in southern TX at least and might even cause the park service to issue an advisory or something. I haven't researched to see if there are any such signs of problems and significant danger, but I haven't heard any stories so I'm going to go out on a limb and assume that it's probably pretty safe.

That said, if I were to visit Big Bend personally I would remain alert, lock my RV when not around it, and carry my usual self-defense tool.

Well, that falls under committing crimes.

You are in greater danger traveling thru any major city in the US than you are in remote Big Bend.
I too am planning a trip to Big Bend area later this year. Planning to avoid all major cities.

well, drug dealing/trafficking and human trafficking would be some of the potential problems. criminals generally want to be unobserved when they cross so rural, sparsely populated and patrolled areas would be magnets. while most of the illegals crossing the border are just looking for a better life that cannot be said for all of them. use your common sense, be aware of your surroundings and keep your eyes open like you would anywhere else you travel and you'll be fine.
