Twin Grove PA

SO I have to express frustration..... We've been there a number of times. I booked Memorial Day a while back- My truck broke down and I had to cancel a week before- On their site they do state that they keep your deposit (Which is the whole thing) of $183.00 dollars if you cancel in less than 7 days. I had thought maybe the campgroupd would work with me- I called to explain and they said- Sorry you are losing 183.00 unless you find someone to take site. I said- "you are going to fill this site in less than an hour"- they stated- there is nothing we can do- The manager was not very kind and stated "you are out of luck"- They would not even refund part of the money. Is it me or does $180.00 seem excessive to keep?
  • Maybe next time instead of flat out canceling, post on Craiglist or a Pa camping forum that you have a reservation available. Holiday weekends in this part o the state sell out quickly, so chances are, you may find someone looking for a site. Just a thought.

Excessive or not, you knew the cancellation terms before making your original commitment and obviously agreed to their terms when you paid for the site. Your complaint is not valid!

    Ditto

  • We used to stay at this campground for a number of years while it was a KOA...loved the campground, but had power outages every time we were there. I know, nothing to do with refunds, but seems that the campground does have its issues.
  • Not an unusual policy, see it at a lot of CG's. Especially on the "big weekends" where they require a 3 day reservation. Too many people pre-book, then cancel leaving the CG with an empty site that would have made money. Would it be nice if they refunded the majority of the deposit if they manage to book the site? Yes, it would. However, they have no obligation to do so... you knew the policy when you booked.

Maybe you can rent a truck (Home Depot--$19.99 a day). Spending a few extra to enjoy a weekend camping, beats losing it all and sitting at home.

Either you are not being truthful of did not see it but I found this quickly

    Quote
    Cancellation Policy

Rv/Tent Sites: If reservation is cancelled any time after reservation is made up to 7 days before your check-in date,
the fee is $15.00. If cancelled after this time, there is NO refund and NO rescheduling.
  • Should have told them to just keep the site open in case you get the truck fixed. They shouldn't be double paid for the site.
  • Wait a day and have the better half call to try to get a spot. When they tell you they are booked full ask for your refund minus a single days stay. When they argue bring up the "Sorry you are losing 183.00 unless you find someone to take site." Apparently someone took the site.

If still no resolving of the issue go to the PA Office of Attorney Generals web site and fill out a consumer complaint form. $183 is not a reasonable deposit to forfeit.
  • Yes it's excessive and you should not do business with them any more. CG's get away with ridiculous cancellation policies because people keep using them. I'm sure you knew it up front and they have every right to do it but it is a ridiculous policy none the less. last option would be to contest the CC charge to see if they will be more reasonable (doubtful). I can understand 1 night but the entire reservation period is silly when they know they can sell the spot.
