Two families - Gatlinburg area

We are camping with friends next summer and plan to do the Smoky Mountains, Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge, etc... We will have 4 adults and 6 kids (7-13). We will definitely want full hook-ups.

Any suggestions on good places to stay? Thanks!

  • Look into the KOA it is really close to everything plus you can catch the trolley from there. But there are a number of great RV parks in the area. I would go on google maps over the area and type in campground and that will show you how close to everything each one is.
  • If you have kids, you will "probably" want to be in the midst of things. I do like Smoky Bear, but it can take 45 minutes to an hour to get into Pigeon Forge from there if the traffic is bad. Maybe more.

We also have DDs that are 13 and 10 and we camp with friends who have a 13 and 11 yr old. We LOVE Pine Mtn RV Park. It has larger sites than most, has a zero entry pool, but is also owned by the family that owns the Mainstay Suites just across a little country road, so you can go there, too. They have an indoor pool, a lazy river pool and a huge hot tub.

You are 2 blocks from the Dollywood intersection, 4 blocks from the Gatlinburg bypass (to go to Elkmont or Cades Cove) and all the other "wonders" (satirical) of Pigeon Forge.

The thing that makes this place so much better than most of the other campgrounds is the location. You are right smack dab in the middle of all the action, but you are behind a large knoll, which blocks most of the sound of the bypass. It may cost you $5-10 more per night, but it will save you from sitting in non-moving traffic for hours if you want to go to Gatlinburg or you want to head to the mountains and get back.

If you do decide to stay there, PM me and I will give you some driving instructions to again, stay off the bypass.

Smoky Bear CG, about 13 miles east of Gatlinburg. It has a pool, quiet & clean place.
