Two night layover between KY and Tybee island

We will be traveling to Tybee Island in mid October and are looking for a place to spend two nights on the way down. Must be able to entertain a couple of teens without breaking the bank. Fishing, hiking, historical points of interest or other points of interest all work. Thanks in advance for your suggestions and advice.
  • I would stop in Cherokee NC. We like River Valley Campground but there are others. You can easily then access Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Don't miss Cades Cove.
  • Head south on i-75 to just inside Georgia. Stay at the Best Holiday Travel Park. There is more things to see and do with in a short drive that would take a week or more.
  • Not sure where in KY to start but if you can Try I-75s to I40e and you can visit Smokey Mountain NP in East Tn, Dollywood Pigeon Forge, you should be able to find something to do. And from Louisville, its not too far from the halfway point. And then continue onto I26 to Ga.
