Perhaps you were embarrassed because, as you said, you were 30 min late in paying for another day?? When they called what was your attitude? I'm not saying this is what happened but I've seen this situation many times as a park host for Ca State Parks. During the off season and there aren't many campers some of the campers think it's ok to stay long past check out time. When I send the ranger down there campers are often rude when they come to the booth. I don't make the rules, the check out time was established probably 40 years ago. Don't know what really happened, the lady COULD have been rude or . . . .
