I generally use some KOA's for overnight stops, just because they are usually very conveniently placed just off many interstates. So far, so good!

For longer stays, IMO, state parks are so much better, especially for what you seem to prefer...... natural setting, adequate spacing between sites and a more relaxing atmosphere. The flip side of that is you usually don't have all the amenities. Many times you only have electric. But, there's something out there for everyone.

The KOAs for us are a very good place to stay for the overnite situation when in travel mode. There are plenty of the KOAs close to the major roads and usually easy in and out.

They are always alot of traffic coming and going at all hours of the nigth at alot of them. After you travel some you will find the one that suits you best and we try hard to work our trips around this idea. To us they are a blessing to us to meet our quick in and out when we need to rest somewhere over night.

We have also stayed at some that were actually very nice indeed.. Most of them that we stayed at however are small camping spots and very noisy with the folks coming and going all the time. All we want to do is get rested up for the next day... When we are on the road we always try to get settled down somewhere before dark, get a good meal, and hit the road again as early as possible the next morning.

We are very thankful for all of the KOAs across the regions. They indeed are franchised and run by local mom and pop folks.

We also have used KOA's basically for overnighters also with no complaints... They almost are always helpful and clean.. No issues here.

Our experience two years ago was that some were not bad others very bad, a swimming pool that was green, dirty bathrooms, bathrooms with broken fixtures and chipped broken tiles... Most seemed to be A near the highway and or near the railroad. In one case there was only one bathroom available after the office closed (Reno). In all cases WiFi did not work or band with was so poor as to be unusable, Cody Wyoming, WyFi does not work when it is windy, when is it NOT windy.

I try to avoid KOAs and all private parks, not my cuppa tea. I prefer state and national parks.

We have used them now and again. We make the distinction between "camping" and "RVing"...We "camp" at state/county parks with minimal or no hookups and take the time to relax, swim, hike, fish, and generally relax. Our "RV" trips usually involve long driving days to distant destinations, and nobody wants to hike/fish after a long day of driving. Kids want to run around, swim in the pool, play in the game room and do stuff like mini-golf while DW and I relax with a cocktail or 2.

I prefer to avoid KOA's. To me, it stands for Keep On Adding. With a young daughter though, the KOA's have features that she enjoys. They usually have a pool, nice playground and other activities for her. We will occasionally go to a KOA for her.

Double ditto. One exception: there are KOAs we use near cities that have few other options. Capitol KOA was a very quiet and pleasant stay.

We prefer state/provincial parks, but we do use KOAs or other private campgrounds when traveling on longer trips. About once every 5-6 days we stop for a night or two when we need to do laundry, dump sewer and the kids always love swimming in a pool. Sometimes it is nice to have unlimited water and electricity.
