Universal Studios Hollywood

We're going to California in a couple of weeks. We were planning on staying further south in San Diego area and just hitting the some of the sight seeing things around there and the beach. But we have our 3 teen boys with us so began thinking about Universal Studios. We've been to Disneyland a few times but have never done Universal.

If any of you have gone, is it worth the price? Can we get by with just a one day pass? Will it be long waits like Disney? I know how Disney works with fast passes and line waits etc, but nothing about Universal. I've been searching online but would love some personal experiences to help me decide if we should go or not.

I need to change our RV park reservation soon if I decide to do Universal to avoid losing deposit. Thx!!

    Yes, well worth it.

    One day is plenty.

Longest wait I can remember was about 30 minutes for the studio bus tour and Jurassic park ride. Disney lines are much longer for their most popular attractions.

Not aware of any fast passes or similar speed pass. I do not remember lines being much of an issue either of the two times I visited. If you have done Disney several times Universal is a nice change.

  • Was just at universal in FL. They have a add on to the ticket, for about 60 bucks each, on line, you can go on any ride any time in the fast lane. Well worth it
    in my opinion. Zero wait

Also at least in FL, they have two parks side by side, so you will need admission to both parks, not just one.

Your boys will probably love the coasters and rides. More than d-land perhaps
  • Sloop has it spot on. We got there first thing and hit plenty of rides. I suggest doing the bus tour twice, it goes different routes through the park.
  • Hi. The 2 day "tourist special" tickets are just $20 more than the one day; I would go for that.Knowing you have 2 days gives you a chance to really experience the park, not only the rides. They also have a front of the line pass for $179-$254 (depending on day you go)...personally, I wouldn't pay that. Whatever you do, get there before opening to avoid some of the crowds. Harry Potter Land is the most popular right now. Have fun.

By the way...Dottie, what rv park did you find convenient to Universal? We usually just drive down to so cal and stay in a hotel, but would be nice to bring the rv.
