update on Highlands Hammock state park FL.

We stayed there this weekend. All the advice we got was great. Beautiful place. Very few campers. It was like having the park to ourselves the first night, spacious sites.
No we didn't see any site that would have to share hookups.
Yes the tower is still closed, still had banners on top saying open, but one look at the entrance said it's been closed a while.
Lots of wildlife and plenty of deer.
We will definitely go back.
Thanks again for the suggestions you all gave me.
  • Thanks for the update on conditions.

I didn't think you had to share pedestals , but you never know.
  • I've been there several times. The last trip about 2 years ago. What tower?
  • The tall observation tower in Lake Placid. Signs say open, but I think it's been closed quite a while. Entry looks like an abandoned old movie theater.
  • Highland Hammock SP is very nice. We stayed there this past February and it wasn't quite full, but getting that way as we left. We walk in the mornings and found the one-way loop road through the park an excellent route for distance and beauty. We've already reserved about a week for January.
  • Thanks jaycocamprs. That must be a real old photo. There was almost nothing around it except groves. Now it is "downtown". :)

Well, we can drift down memory lane can't we?

It wasn't that long ago it looked as it did in the photo.

    Ahhhh, the old days...........
