Another related story at the Westmoreland State Park in VA. Each of the camping sections have a large covered stacked up wood pile and the sign says $.50 for each log. At first I thought this was highway robbery but actually this is a great price. You pay for this on the honor system by placing money in the iron pipe money slot...
We usually stay three or so days when we go and $20 is about what we spend for their firewood. Always great to be at the campground on Sunday afternoons and get to scrounge up on the firewood left by departing campers... Where we camp in section B there is usually just a couple of us left camping so we divide up the left-over fire wood haha... We usually leave a pretty good stack of wood - the ranger folks probably put it back into the pile to get sold again haha...
Normally these parks fill up on Fridays and Saturdays big time and the area is almost like a ghost town the rest of the week. We like to get there on Thursdays and leave on Monday or Tuesday... Actually enjoy watching the folks camping with there kids... You see the silliest things the kids do... Alot of kids bring their bicycles and when they find out I have a portable air compressor then I become the local air-up station haha...
