We are just about to hit the road for a 7 week drive and DV is part of that. I don't know about Racetrack...makes me nervous, thinking of a flat.
ppine? If you'd be willing to send me a rough outline of that area with the donkeys and jets? I'd be thinking that would be a great destination.

Gary ... I'd like to see you make it to the Racetrack! If you did make it out there, you'd most likely be in the first ever Class C motorhome to do it.
It probably would not even require 4WD in a Class C to do it in dry weather - just no low-hanging stuff on the motorhome - combined with slow, careful driving. Tires with a ply count higher than 10 should be on one's Class C though, as I've read that rocks on the road to it can be sharp. Once there, I wonder if one would be allowed to camp in the Racetrack area?
The preceding discussion in this thread reminds me of something that I've thought about for a long time. Does a Western U.S. Class B/C-centric RV club exist wherein they have almost exclusively boondocking rallies and get togethers? Maybe similar to what these folks do with their Airstream trailers: http://sierranevadaairstreams.org/snu/
There's no reason that truck campers should have all the fun. ;)
Phil..No group like that to my knowledge. The Jeep folk are all clubbed from one state to another, and the 4x4 clubs. And truly, when I see the pix of all the trucks/Jeeps all strung out, I think to myself...yuck.
We may come back up via the inland route...bringing us into the Great Basin in Oregon.
