Recent laws enacted by Texas prevent Americans from bringing Viagra into the US from Mexico.
You may be joking but the Texas alcohol taxes have already put a big hurt on the Nuevo Progresso economy. Medicine next and then dentistry? Goodbye border towns. - pyoung47ExplorerRecent laws enacted by Texas prevent Americans from bringing Viagra into the US from Mexico.
- tobanExplorerBeing so near the Mexican border in Texas has been a problem and a concern to many snowbirds for a few years now. We were there for 4 years with our last year being 2007-08. The McAllen police told us then it was only going to get worse after our neighbour had his truck stolen from the Don Wes Flee market. People defend where they go for the winter. People make their choices where they feel is the best place for them.
Toban - dreamerExplorerCorrect, this is a NEW warning.
dreamer. - John_JoeyExplorerThanks for clearing that up, and for the heads up with the new news.
The link that you're talking about is here Clicky.
I for one, listen to our government warnings and do not challenge them. I've traveled to many places, and fully understand that some countries do not have the same civil rights that we take for granted at times. - kydaleExplorerThought someone would pickup on this. These are two different news reports by KRGV. One is about the shootings the other is a travel warning issued Aug 23, 2014. And there are other warnings about travel to Mexico, this one is a warning for travel to Progresso.
I agree there are bad places in the good ole USA. But with one big difference, Mexico is a third world country. If I was hurt, arrested or in any sort of difficulty I would rather be in the worst part of Chicago than the best part of Mexico. I like going to the green taco stand and the Red Panty Bar as much as anyone. And I have been going for 8 seasons. But any wise traveler should want to know as much possible about thier destination. Then you can weigh the rewards against the risk. Is the reason my wife and I go worth taking a chance. We leave here Oct. 1 for the valley. We will wait till we get there to decide. But maybe instead of the Red Panty Bar for that drink we will go to Chilis. - Ron___ShirleyExplorerHmm at this point I feel safer in Nuevo Progresso than in many parts of Missouri which is where I spend the summer.
We each have to decide our comfort zone.
Shirley - pawattExplorerThus far there has been more crime on the US side of the border than in Nuevo Progreso. But I still plan to go to the Mission area as I am not involved in the drug trade or smuggling.
