We were boondocking on the beach near Freeport, TX. Coastal flood warnings last night and tonight have forced us inland for a few days. Hope to be back on the beach Sunday evening.

Phil, as someone who has spent a lot of time on both Calif and Texas beaches, you'd be surprised at how great the beaches in Texas can be. Yes, the surf is better in Calif. And yes, the really hot weather in summer can be a drag in Texas.
But most of the time, the water is warmer in Texas than Calif (which is usually a good thing), the water is clearer, the surf fishing is better, and the camping is much better -- more spaces available, more privacy, easier access to the water.
