One of our favorites is Malaquite Beach Campground located on Padre Island (not SOUTH Padre island) about 10 miles from Corpus Christi. The campground sits right on the dunes overlooking the beach but if this isn't close enough, there is 60 miles of beach to the south that is all open for camping ON the beach and 10 miles of open beach to the North. Something for everyone who enjoys "camping" but nothing for someone who wants to just RV. No hook ups of any kind either at Malaquite or on the beach of course. Malaquite does have a dump station and fresh water at the dump.
Second favorite is Canyon Lake at Potter Creek. This is a COE campground with water and electric which is located in the hart of Texas Hill Country. Temperatures will be five or six degrees cooler there than in the Corpus area but still mostly pleasant days with cool nights. There is MORE scenic areas in Hill Country than further down into the valley.
