What does the future hold for 55+ park model communities?

My wife and I have been considering the RGV as a spot to winter when we retire. I've actually been watching the market on park models in that area for three or four years. Some of the homes advertised right now have been on the market for several years. Initially we were thinking that was the route we wanted to go but if you can't get rid of it when the time comes it might not be the best option. We've decided to go with a motorhome to begin with.
