I worked the Front Desk for awhile. If you reserve a spot, I'm obligated to hold it for you (for some duration).
If you booked a spot for two days, then again, I do have an obligation to hold it for you (up to a point).
To the OP: Rather than accuse them of lying, why not just ask? Nicely? Maybe you'll get an explanation.
