Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore in northern Michigan is awesome. Stay at the Platte River Campground in the park and you can even have electric. Beautiful beaches, dunes, hiking trails and the whole area is a terrific place to explore. In summer, a ferry trip to the park's Manitou Island for a day visit is a nice change back to the early days.
We're a little partial.... we volunteered for the park for 9 seasons and having visited just about every major national park in the country it's still a favorite of ours.
