Another thought about Yosemite: look at camping in the Eastern Sierra and enter the park from Tioga Pass on highway 120. The scenery is awesome and you will also be near Mono Lake. There are plenty of NF campgrounds in the nearby towns of Lee Vining, June Lake, and Mammoth Lakes. Most are on reservation. Before Memorial Day and after Labor Day are the best times; during the summer, it is family vacation central.
