Gettysburg area has plenty things to do.

Do go to some of the monuments on this site. Most have GPS coordinates.Brings life to the battlefield.

Get a good guide book and research the battle while you are there. Can buy at the bookstore at the visitor center.
Go to Sach's bridge near the battlefield. Great covered bridge with historic and ghost stories.
It is Halloween so take a ghost tour or two.
An hour east in Lancaster is James Buchanon's Wheatland. He was the 15 th president. Cool tour of his Victorian house. Many People who visit Amish country never heard of Wheatland. Just east of Lancaster is the Strasburg rail museum. Very nice collection of railroad things, smack dab in Amish Country. You can do both Wheatland and the rail museum in a day.
