I understand where you are coming from, I too started out tent camping sometimes in harsh conditions for up to a week at a time, though now as I get older I like my comforts, I like having a real bed, refrigeration, hot water, a real bathroom. I even like having electricity and water hook ups some of the time, though I will typically dry camp weather permitting. For me it is now about going places and seeing things, not about roughing it, this means if it is going to be 90+ degrees at midnight I will be somewhere with electric hookups to run the air conditioner, or I will be running the generator it also means that I will try to find a place with cell signal so I can stay connected with the world to some degree. As while it is good to get away and see places, it is also good to stay in touch with people, know whats going on back home, if any family emergencies arise, etc.
