West of the Sierras, there is pretty much no BLM land for boondocking. FS is for the most part in the Sierras with a few areas to the west, but much of that is demonstration forests with no camping allowed - campground or otherwise. The coast is mostly state-owned or private so no boondocking there. The valley is private farmland.
So not all the west is open for extensive boondocking. Unless you like the desert and heat, you are limited.
However, I think the OP's use of "boondocking" was more generally focused as using your RV self-contained and in an outdoor setting as opposed to full hookups and all the conveniences of an urban setting.
