People have boondocked from the beginning of RVs and the beginning of cars. It is a very American experience to go on a road trip and see where you end up.
The Nat Park Service has done a very poor job of updating their campgrounds to accomodate RVs. The Forest Service and BLM have done only a fair job. Most larger RVs say TT over 26 feet do not fit. Neither do larger MH.
The idea of spending the night in a parking lot of a store or a KOA or a truck stop has never had any appeal. I like trailers around a max of 22-23 feet because they fit everywhere. Dry camping opens up a whole world of places to stay. I want to wake up and see the forest and hear the bulging elk, not look at a bunch of RVs and listen to generators.
Ignore the people that think they need reservations 6 month in advance and stay in RV parks.
