The number of Class A's and large FWs did attribute to our negative experience. It wasn't only the number of large rigs but the overwhelming volume of vehicles and people in general. But what can you do?
We were there without our camper so we experienced the non-camping crowd's point of view.
These parks should be for everyone not just tenters.
There's been thought tossed around for the big attendance parks going to a shuttle service and park entrance by a lottery concept - only a certain amount allowed in each day.
The shuttle in Zion works very well for cutting down on the congestion and parking problems.
Building more campgrounds in the parks would add to the problem. These parks are so underfunded as it is. That's why they need volunteers to help out so the employees can do the major jobs. Rocky Mtn. Nat'l Park told us when we volunteered there that there are around 1,500 volunteers in that park. Think about how much would not be done in the parks if not for volunteers.
A saying that the rangers use is "our parks are being loved to death".
I agree with all of that. I also think it's important to remember that disabilities can also factor in to a person's ability to "camp" in a very small unit.
