There are many such sites in Colorado where you can boondock for free. One that comes to mind is a place I stayed for 2 nights about 8-9 years ago, a graveled parking area off to the side of Hwy 145 near Rico. A stream hurries downhill there and you can listen to it all night. I saw people fishing there, too. An abandoned roadway goes across an obsolete bridge and meanders off through the woods, a great place for a quiet walk.
The point is, if you get out into an area with plenty of wide open spaces, you'll find some spots.
