America the Beautiful Senior Lifetime Pass

For you Old Geezers (like me) that have had a Senior Lifetime Pass for a number of years, your existing pass is now available digitally on your phone. First you have to set up an account (if you don't already have one) at "recreation.gov" where you can then link your existing senior pass to your account. You're going to need the number on your physical card to do this, so if you lost your card and don't know the number you're SOL. Then you download the "recreation.gov app" to you phone and log in. Once you log in the pass will be available in the app for your use in entrance into NPS, Forest Service, BLM, USCOE, etc. facilities (anywhere your physical card is accepted). Note: acceptable ID and your physical presence is still required when you use the pass.

You can also download a pdf copy of your pass (which is also accepted for entrance) and/or download the card to your "wallet app".

  • StirCrazy just a friendly discussion. We all have to pay $$ or $$$$ for some things and we all (or most) look for ways to pay less with the things we spend $ on. Win some lose some.
I get a cheaper campsite but I pay more for other stuff when I visit your country. You pay more for a NP pass but get cheaper stuff. Sounds like a wash to me.
I know you’re not complaining, but complaining about things that are A.  Not horrible. And B.  Out of one’s control is of no benefit.
Side note, looks like BC right now gas is the same or cheaper than here!!

Im, trying to figure out what I get cheeper right now LOL.  when our buck was at par then it was how you said, even when we were at 0.86 it wasn't bad but you had to look for cheeper.  at 0.71 there is no cheeper anymore, traditionaly with the price of oil, our buch should be at par or higher than the US greenback, but for some reason it has been untied to oil over the last 12 years.  I figured BC is slightly cheeper that california when you convert to the smaller gal and the exchange rate last week, havent done it this week yet though.  I think deisel was up to 2.30/L in vancouver if not higher though.

my point wasn't that I pay more it was more that.  ok before I post anything more, I view the US and Canada as brother countries.  if you go back we were both pretty much founded by the same immigrants and such.  I have more than a few ancestors that fought in the civil war, so some time before I die I have to get out there and learn more about that.  so it irks me that on a whim our two countries can be throwen into termoil like they have been.  to me its is simple if trump raises national passes for us then we should raise them for you.  about the only way I can get a site in Banff now a days 🤣,

but that isn't the answer either..  there should be none of this stuff between the US and Canada.  heck I can't even buy burbon in BC right now, although we do have some nice home grown alternatives.   but I don't want to turn this into a political debate so I'll just stop and see what happens in the future.

  • This pass has saved us so much money. Especially camping on Federal sites

That’s the point. Why us…elders? …veterans who separated more than 40 years ago?

  • On a broader scope, is the Senior Pass fair? I go in and out of National Parks with a wave of my forever $20 Senior Pass while the guy behind me with the wife, three kids and a tight budget pays $35 at Yosemite, Grand Canyon, Devil’s Postpile etc. Why am I entitled to what is essentially “free” admission? Heck, now with the Veteran Pass there is no fee. What do you think?

its simple.  we are a minority.  yes "we" is kinda misrepersented on the board as there are a lot of us "older" people who have time to sit on the keyboard, for the record, I am not a senior yetbut getting close.

so the reality is most families on a tight budgit have good paying jobs and by tight budgit they are not blowing their savings and food money to enter.  Just like me, and most rational people, they make a budgit for the trip they are going on.  if you don't you tend to spend way more than you intended.  the other reality is they might do this once a year, maybe twice or maybe even less.  seniors on the other hand generaly don't even do that, and in most cases are on a very extreem fixed budgit.  now like I said it is fudged on the boards because we have a lot of seniors who seam to be able to go every weekend of the year.  but don't let that fool you we are a minority (I say we because I am close, even though work interfers with my camping haha) when I go to a campground it is actualy pretty rare to see seniors, unless you are in a resort.  ya I see the odd one, usaly camping with a group of family, but I would say over halft the time I don't even see anyone my age.  so for most that pass is a way to get out of the house, interact with people, all while keeping it afordable for the real people on fixed incomes.

as it should be.  everyplace should have a Veteran rate that is better than the normal senior rate.

I disagree. Veterans benefits should be to “catch up” the vet to where he/she would have been if they had not served…education, employment etc. “Lifelong” perks, particularly in an all volunteer armed forces, isn’t appropriate.

If you feel guilty, just hand in your pass and pay daily rate.
