Most state parks keep several campsites back from the reservation system for drive ins. You have to be there early to get one though. You could phone ahead and ask if they have some non reservation sites and see what the policy is. We do that quite often. In Florida, where we live, you can't get into a state park unless you reserve 11 months in advance. On occasion, you can find a couple of days mid week still available on the reservation system. In the popular areas it does take a bit of planning. But if you want to just go spontainously, find a commercial campground and go. Look them up on http://www.rvparkreviews.com Some commercial parks are actually quite nice with waterfront views, mountains etc.
