DW and I have a family reunion in Eastern KY first of May. We will bring the TT with us from FL up as the gathering is in a state park. We just found out that there will be another family gathering near Wilmington NC first of June. We are retired soooo..... Where to go for a month? We've done the Smokies to death, so not interested in that area. We are into historical stuff. So we were thinking Williamsburg VA area. Is there enough for a month visit? To keep cost down I'm thinking a month stay at one park (monthly rates are so much cheaper) and day tripping out from one location. Is this a good location for this? What would you suggest?

You have done the Smokies. But have you done the Blue Ridge in North Western NC. IMOP way better then the Smokies. If not. you should really try the NC High Country. You can visit GrandFather Mountain, Boone, Blowing rock, Linville Falls, The Blue Ridge Parkway, Little Switzerland, Well there are just hundreds of things to see, and do. Also you say you like history. Wilmington, and the surrounding area is just chock full of history. first of course in Wilmington, You will see the USS North Carolina Battleship. There is also a railroad museum, plus many other museums to visit. A harbor Tour boat ride, Carriage rides, and cobble stone streets to walk and imagine how it was in the Old South. There are several days of stuff to see just in Wilmington. Then just 17 miles from Wilmington, you will find Fort Fisher. "The Last Stronghold Of The Confederacy" AND Carolina Beach with the BEST Donuts in the world, and they will be open in June. From Fort Fisher you can ride the ferry over to South Port. History abounds in South Port, from cemetarys, and houses, that have been there since before America was a country. There you can also visit Ortan Plantation, and Brunswick Town ruins. You could also ride the Ferry out to Bald Head Island and see the light house. Lots to do in the Cape Fear area.Also North of Wilmington you can visit Top Sail Island. So named because the Pirates (Yes Black Beard) would hide behind the island, and all the ships coming down the coast could see was the top sails of the Pirate ships. At Top Sail you can take boat rides up the Waterway and see the channel where the PT boats were stationed in WWII. You can also go the other way to the "Gold Hole" where supposedly he buried his treasure, and it is in that channel where he sank his ship, and killed his crew. So you see. You don't have to go anywhere to see all the history you can stand.I should teach history huh!

Do a Google (or other) search for `______ tourism' and put the area, town, state or whatever in the blank and read what the experts have to recommend.

I think you will find plenty to do in the Williamsburg area. We were there a few years ago and really loved it. Virginia is a great state for history and rving. Enjoy!

Thanks everyone for the great advice. After looking at the great links you provided and talking about where to go we kinda think a trip from KY over to Virginia will be our direction. Ther is so much we haven't seen there. We just returned from a mountain trip and we have seen th NC mountain region it was great, but now for some historical stuff. :-). I'm going to make some calls this week to see if I can get a monthly rate from somewhere. If not, we may have to go with our passport america and try several parks to keep cost down. We didn't want to jump parks that often, but oh well. We can't do 30 nights at $40 to $50+ per night. Any suggestions please keep them coming, they are greatly appreciated.
