Whitefish or Kalispell Montana

We will be camping in our travel trailer in Glacier National Park for 8 nights in August. We will then head west to Spokane, Washington.
We would like to camp a couple of nights, with full hookup and wi-fi in either Whitefish or Kalispell to restock and clean, etc. Would appreciate input from anyone who has camped in either town, and has campground recommendation.
Also, which route would be best to Spokane? I'm looking at Montana 28...which is a black colored route on the Montana map. Is it suitable for trailer towing?
Thanks,
Carol
  • And for things to do other than Glacier NP, take a trip to Big Mountain ski resort. they are open in the summer and take you to the top on the lifts. they have a huge balcony up there and you can grab something to eat too with beautiful views! We stopped for dinner on the way back in Whitefish. they had some good restaurants there!
  • Hi Carol, I just sent you a pm with suggestioms. Let me know if I can provide anything else. Jerry
  • Appreciate all those who gave campground suggestions/recommendations. Spruce Park Village and Glacier Pines were the two I was considering. Glacier Pines has a great website where the campground map shows the layout of individual sites.
JGrimes: The route you use (I hope towing a trailer or 5th wheel) is the one we were considering, but didn't know if it was suitable for either.
I think by the time we are in Kalispell, we'll be ready for some restaurant food. Would love to know food eateries popular with the locals. Thanks again.

  • My cousins moved to Kalispell (actually Kila) back in 04. we stayed in there driveway up in the Hills. they have Bears and Elk up there! we had a great time. when they first went out there they were in a campground for about 6 months until they got there property ready. I think they stayed at Spruce Park on the River. they said they like it!

    Beautiful area and town!
  • Spruce park on the river is an awesome spot. Right on the river at the edge of Kalispell. We spent a week there a couple years ago and will stay there again.
  • The route I generally take to Spokane from Kalispell is to head south on 93; at Elmo take mT 28 to mT 200; turn left on Mt 200 and then turn right MT 135 to St Regis where you'll hit I 90.(MT 28 does have a climb and some curves - if this concerns you, take US93 to Ravalli and turn right on US 200; a little further but better road.)

As far as camping, there are lots of choices - Glacier Pines in Kalispell seems pretty popular and is near the river and close to town. Kaalispell has lots of good food and things to do. Have a great trip.
