If all you're worried about is nice Campgrounds and smooth roads, perhaps you need to lock yourself into the freeway close KOA's
Last I checked, Yosemite, Death Valley, Grand Canyon, and all the rest all reside within their own National Park, complete with crappy roads. If thats a big deal, find a KOA and drive to them
