Winning the RV campsite lottery

This morning I booked a site at Assateague State Park for 5 days in August. There are 80 electrical sites in the park and they were all filled for the entire month of august within 2 minutes, and I got one of them. $35/night to stay on the ocean. I am so excited it's ridiculous.
Anyone else feel like they've won the lotto with their campsites?
  • We recently returned from a month in Eastern Sierras. We managed to get the only FHU in our favorite campground-in the national forest! It is non reservable so we weren't sure we'd have a shot. We got it for 21 days-we were so fortunate and didn't take a day of it for granted!
  • If you go online to the reservation site a couple of times a week beginning in April, you can pick up sites pretty easily as people cancel their plans. When we lived in MD, we went to Assateague about a dozen times a year. Rarely did we reserve a site more than a couple months in advance, just picked up the cancellations of others.

The same holds true for the keys. We were just there a few weeks ago, with someone else's 9 day cancellation I found the month before...

I thought there are only 38 spots with electric hookup (Loop H). Did they add electric spots?

Last Monday, I was able to grab a space in Loop H for 4 nights next September. I was online promptly at 8:00AM and all spaces were gone by 8:10AM!!

    Have a nice trip!

Wow. You're right. Only 38 sites. Holy cow. Still can't believe it. Only 10 more months. ;-)
  • yep been there and did that for FL-Keys SP in the winter. We had 2 laptop's running and pounding on the enter key. We won one site for 2 weeks...lol Makes you feel HAPPY, HAPPY, HAPPY!!
  • Yep, a couple of years ago, we scored two weeks in February at Long Key State Park in the Fla. Keys the very second bookings opened 11 months out, and I did the happy dance. So I know how you feel.

    Why YES, Just this morning:

Secured a RV spot down in Keys for this year's (New Year week)! Actually there are a couple spots, if you go through Realtors & stay at Cudjoe Key.

Then took a shot on getting couple days at John Prince Park in West Palm Beach area to visit family on the way down & SCORED a LAKE SIDE SPOT for the days we needed. Someone had just canceled!!! :B

Slim pickings in Florida for the winter & holidays!

Get out there and make lasting adventures!
