I'd like to first point out that Crystal River, FL (Rock Crusher Canyon) is not near the beaches, although there is one small beach outside of Crystal River. If you like beaches you need to look at Tampa, Sarasota, and points south.
We like Rock Crusher Canyon in Crystal River. It's cooler this far north of Tampa (about 70 miles), but there is less traffic and the prices are within reason (about $675/month). This is in an area of Florida called the Nature Coast.
Down in the Port Charlotte/ Punta Gorda area we stayed a week at Riverside RV (actually listed as in Arcadia, but much closer to Port Charlotte). Very nice park with plenty to do. The monthly rate at Riverside is much higher than Rock Crusher, somewhere in the neighborhood of about $1,200. The longer you stay the cheaper the monthly rate, which is the case for most RV parks.
I would suggest that you spend some time researching the areas you might consider staying for a week or longer. I use RV Park Reviews.com. You can select different cities and check out parks listed in that area and you can also connect with each park's website for detailed info.
