Wolf Creek Pass

We are in the planning stages of going through Wolf Creek Pass in probably late June. I see on the puter a couple campgrounds up top. West Fork is one of them. Please help out and share your thoughts of one, some or all that you have been to. Likes an dislikes etc. We have our 33 foot fifth wheel with the three slides, so a little extra room is nice. Thanks in advance. Jeff & Karen

West Fork is below the pass, not "up top".

Agee. It is at the bottom of the pass on the west side. And there are some near the bottom of the pass on the east side. But I don’t remember any higher up.

Was on top sightseeing several years ago in late June and was hit by a heavy thunder sleet storm! Got out as the roads were icing over.
  • You do not really want to camp at the top of that pass. I can remember going over it many times often in snow storms. It is a tough one most of the year. The lights quit on my truck once and I ended up in Monte Vista when it was abut 15 degrees below zero. The local cop said "we can put you up downtown." We spent the night in jail. We were young then and didn't have much money. The Deputy locked us in and asked what time we wanted out. We said "0500."
