- Ed_CExplorerThe best is Grizzly in West Yellowstone; there are other nice ones in West Yellowstone. It's about a 30 minute drive depending on what animals show up along the way.
- LwiddisExplorer IIStaying inside the park eliminates the long drive in and out and the waits at the entrance stations.
- HorsedocExplorer IICommercial CG? Old Faithful is a long way from any private land and hence commercial CGs. I am guessing that West Yellowstone is as close as any and Grizzly CG in W Yellowstone is great. If you mean FHU CGs then the only one in the park is Fishing Bridge, which is likely further away than W Yellowstone.
This place is huge and not a lot of roads that run through it. - Johno02ExplorerWest Yellowstone. Several nice commercial campgrounds. Be ready for some long drives, Yellowstone is a big place and nothing is close to anything else. Carry your Infared thermometer.
- NRALIFRExplorerThe NPS website says Fishing Bridge campground is closed for the 2019 season, and will be closed for the 2020 season until mid-September.
:):) - Closes commercial is in West Yellowstone. We stay at Buffalo Crossing.
- Pangaea_RonExplorerWe also like Grizzly RV Park in West Yellowstone.
When you are driving, get started early in the day to try to beat some of the crowds. Talk to the Park Rangers about special places to go that may have fewer visitors. We were directed to a short hike to thermal pools and small bubbling geysers where we were by ourselves. The rangers said that you can go up next to the pools if you see bison footprints around.
Try not to get too upset with foreign tourists parking in the dedicated RV spots with their rental cars at many of the sights, but you do have permission to take away and destroy "selfie sticks" from those visitors.
My mother grew up in Butte, MT and I been going to the park for over 60 years ago. My cousins worked in the park and I would often stay with them there during the summer. I have stories to tell. - Dick_BExplorerYou did search this Forum for Yellowstone in the RV Parks section, right?
