This may seem like a silly question, but why do you need full hookups for a three-night stay in each park? Aren't RVs supposed to be, y'know, self-sufficient for at least that long? Will you really run out of water, tank capacity, propane, etc. in three nights???
If you expand your search to non-hookup sites, you'll find that there are about eight times as many in the two parks as full-hookups--after all, the campgrounds were designed for tent camping--and you should be able to find a spot to reserve even at this late date. Also, since you have a toad, you should consider the many Forest Service campgrounds just outside each park.
I have to agree with you. Five years ago we installed solar panels and it's made a huge difference. Since then, we've only stayed at RV parks to catch up on laundry, dump our tanks and refill again. Plus, FS CG are so serene and affordable compared to parks. Last Fall we stayed between Alpine and Jackson at Wolf Creek CG and loved it. We then moved to Falls off the Togwotee Pass between Wilson and Dubois, Wy.
