X3 on Madison and Mammoth campgrounds if you want to stay inside the park. Madison is reservable, while Mammoth is first come-first served.
We were there last June/early July and it was very crowded, probably due to low gas prices and the 100 year anniversary of the National park Service. We didn't even try to stay inside the park, but instead used Bakers Hole Campground and Rainbow Point Campground north of West Yellowstone for the lower loop of the Park. For the Lamar Valley in the northeast corner of the Park, we used Colter Campground, just outside Cooke City. From there we drove the beautiful Chief Joseph Highway to Cody to begin the trip home.
Don't miss Grand Teton NP just 40 miles south of Yellowstone while you are in the area!
