Just make sure you don't float too far downstream...that first drop is rough :) - tbredExplorer IIBoth Sylvan Lake and Legion Lake campgrounds within Custer SP have swimming w/beaches. Great place to stay, lots to do, amazing scenic short drive from there to Mt. Rushmore.
- 83trekkerExplorerI am going to have to start making a list here soon of the places, thanks.
- Bob___AnnExplorerX2 on seeing the Beartooth Parkway. It is a fantastic ride. I would also take in the Badlands while at Rushmore. The Wild Horse Sanctuary is also interesting. it is about 40 miles south of Rushmore. Enjoy!
- KarenS144ExplorerThere is a swimming hole on the Firehole River in Yellowstone. You have to take the Firehole Canyon Drive to get to it.
As others have mentioned, Cody is worth a couple of days at least. We stayed 3 nights in Buffalo Bill State Park and enjoyed the Museum, Irma's and several other places in Cody. There is one campground right on the lake. I guess you could swim in it if you wanted. If you've got time, the Chief Joseph-Beartooth Highway is well worth a day trip. We started in Red Lodge and it's a cute little town.
We stayed in the Grace Coolidge Campground in Custer State Park and visited Mt. Rushmore. As others mentioned, Deadwood & Lead should be on your list.
The Badlands isn't far from the Black Hills and could be done in a day. Then there's Wall Drug which is between the Black Hills & Badlands.... It's nearly impossible to say you've seen everything there is to see. There is always more! - 83trekkerExplorerThanks all
- fireman93514ExplorerHill city SD has a steam train ride.
We enjoyed Little Bighorn battlefield.
Jewel and wind caves,
Deadwood/Lead. - AllworthExplorer IICody????
(Also, x2 on Rocky Mtn CG in Gardnier.) - deloshollyExplorerI do not know what route you are taking, but we really enjoyed the side-trip to Thermopolis, WY. The drive along the Wind River was very scenic and the town has a nice museum. There are hot springs in town.
