Unless your trip is in late June or maybe even July this year, you can forget about getting there from the east on 120. With the heavy snow Tioga pass may not open until after July 4.
We're travelling in mid-September. Should be ok?
I'm sure you are aware there is a road closure preventing anyone from going to Yosemite Valley from the north of the park.
Several hundred feet of CA 140 collapsed in the rains this summer. It is right as 140 starts past near the Crane Flat gas station. When we were there two days ago the highway dept was hard at work, but it is a major, lengthy repair. Workers at the site told us that the work could take much longer than the open near July 4 official predictions.
Just keep an eye on the notices before you get to the park. We are at a TT campgrounds on CA-120 about 12 miles from the north entrance, and it is a 70 mile one-way trip down thru Mariposa for us to get to the Yosemite Valley.
Big Oak Flat Road (Hwy 120) closed into Yosemite Valley; no access to Yosemite Valley via Hwy 120
Alert 1 , Severity ,closure ,,Big Oak Flat Road (Hwy 120) closed into Yosemite Valley; no access to Yosemite Valley via Hwy 120
Big Oak Flat Road is closed between Crane Flat and Foresta due to storm damage. There is no access via Hwy 120 to Yosemite Valley from Buck Meadows, Groveland, or Sonora. From Groveland, use Hwy 49 to Mariposa, then Hwy 140 to Yosemite Valley.
